The startups will begin the day with a visit of CIC: CIC was started in 1999 to support entrepreneurs building fast-growing companies. CIC Cambridge is home to over 900 companies. More than 3/4 of them are startups. CIC has been home to over 2500 companies over the years, many of whom have started here. Companies originally headquartered at CIC have raised $2.0b in venture capital and strategic investment since 2001 (while at CIC and after moving out). French Tech Hub offices are located at the CIC and are open to French Tech Hub’s clients and members.

After the visit of CIC, startups will meet with representatives of 3 key organizations of the Boston ecosystem:

  • MassMEDIC is an organizing partner of Medicen SoftLanding Program and the largest regional medical device association in the United States, with over 350 members representing manufacturers, product developers, suppliers, research institutions and academic health centers.
  • The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) is an investment agency that supports life sciences innovation, research, development and commercialization. The MLSC is charged with implementing a 10-year, $1-billion, state-funded investment initiative.
  • MassTech an innovative public agency working to support a vibrant, growing economy across Massachusetts.

In the afternoon the delegation will meet with BBA and BMT Advisors to better understand the challenges to enter the healthcare US market and the steps to follow to succeed.

The day will close with a keynote of Dr. Jeff Karp, Associate Professor of Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. The Boston Business Journal recognized Dr. as a Champion in Healthcare Innovation and MIT’s Technology Review Magazine (TR35) also recognized Dr. Karp as being one of the top innovators in the world (3 members from his laboratory have received this award). In its talk at Café Des Sciences, Dr. Jeffrey Karp will reveal two of the most powerful “tools” used by his bio-research lab to solve problems in innovative ways, on a continuing basis. The first tool is bio-inspiration. The second tool is radical simplicity. Stay tuned for a summary of this talk before the end of the week.
